Activating your local Koneki Club

TECHNOLOGY

Augmented Reality is part of a spectrum called the 'Virtuality Continuum'. This spectrum includes Reality, Augmented Reality, Mixed Reality and Virtual Reality. The showcase is an opportunity to experience technologies right across the spectrum.

“Not a single media company isn’t thinking about what happens when the rectangle goes away.”

– Jules Urbach, Otoy

The showcase is also an opportunity for schools, community and iwi to interpret how the technology has the potential to support storytelling and communication.

Showcase
FORMAT

The format of a showcase can be tailored to suit your local needs, but a common approach is to run four school experiences plus an open-to-the-public session on a weekend day.

Standard Format:

  • 4 x 2 hour AR/VR experiences scheduled over two school days, and an open public session (3hrs) one weekend day.
  • Includes children (between Years 7-10 ) parents and teachers.

Teacher PD

Working with Plattar and other partners, Fabriko has developed three learning modules that cover storytelling using some of the key types of creative media, including video, graphic design and 3D modelling.

They have been specially designed to be achievable with the technology accessible in most schools – tablets and laptops.

The PD session is a discovery of the technical techniques and approaches, but also an opportunity to explore ideas and opportunities from a local context.

LEARNING MODULES

To get your Koneki Club on it's feet there are three learning modules, consisting of up to three lessons each. They've been designed to fill out an average nine week school term. Each lesson fills between 1-2 hours.

Each module comes with a lesson plan and worksheets. There's a growing pool of technical resources to draw on. These lessons have been tested and refined in partnership with Te Pa o Rakaihautu (Thanks!).

BEYOND

With the skills developed during Koneki, Clubs are encouraged to start exploring augmented storytelling based in their own community. These stories can then be submitted to the Koneki Map for other people to explore!
